Tomorrow I go to a Bar Mitzvah for the son of some dear friends in Richmond. We are pleased to be asked to honor the young man by our presence. Here is hoping we do not have a spring snow that will prevent us from attending. What an important day for the young man.
travesty
I just read of the brutal slaying of four of our citizens by Somali pirates. It sickens me to realize that there are people who have no regard for the sanctity of life and will use any means to extract ransom for their hostages. This is one place where I believe pre-emptive military strikes are fully justified. God bless the four Americans.
Bacchanalia and Bachlerhood
Well….my son is getting married in about four weeks and there is to be a gathering this weekend of about thirty of his friends for a hunting foray on Sat. and a compotation and wassail on Sat. night to celebrate the demise of his “celibacy”. As one might imagine there will be some crapulent behavior as the mead & grog & grape & ale will be consumed in copious amounts. I am eschewing the demon rum and will be a designated driver which is quite a role reversal for me. I have on many such occassions in the past “acted the fool” but am too old to join in such revelry. It should be fun to watch. The hunt on Sat. will be for pheasant, chuka, and quail and the group is staying on Fri. night at a hunting lodge that is quite nice. I am ready for these high-spirited young bucks and hope to show them up on the hunt.
Reality
Today I took a longtime friend, who is battling brain cancer, to Charlottesville for a radiation treatment. She is very brave and quite a woman. We are hoping and praying for a good result and she is facing the disease with dignity and resolve. It was an inspiration to be in her company and she exhibited all the best qualities one could imagine. She is truly remarkable.
Raleigh Was Unreal
Well, we survived our radio experience in Raliegh but it was an eyeopener. The DJs were funny and had a great repartee with each other and with the audience—but there was nothing sacred or taboo. They did seem to enjoy the story of my book and several people called in to find out how to obtain one. The two nurses, Gordon and Emma, handled themselves quite well and got a few laughs. The station gave everyone a bag of parting gifts—–and many were quite “suggestive”. The whole crew was very nice to all of us and really are quite funny.
It’s time to start prepping for the gig on the 25th at Givens. I placed eight posters in retail establishments today and reservations can be made at Givens starting Monday. Hope to see you there.
It is Showtime
Well—-I have agreed to appear on a morning radio show in Raleigh on Friday morning. My baby daughter set this up and I fear that I will make a major fool of myself—-but maybe it is payback time for all the japes I pulled on her. For those who are interested and are gluttons for punishment you can listen to the program using the link below.

Bar Party—–Christmas
It might seem weird but the Campbell Co. Xmas Bar Party is once again held in Jan. at Perky’s. This year I am pleased that we will have as guests Ed & Mo Weiner from Fairfax. Ed is one of the premier plaintiff’s attorney and Mo and I are partners in a “virtual jury “venture. They are fine folks and will see how we enjoy a good time in free Virginia. They might decide to leave occupied Virginia after our soiree.
insanity
I must be daft since I let my baby daughter cajole me into appearing as a guest on a wacko radio station in Raleigh next week.Oh well, I suppose it will pass and soon be forgotten. I think I will use another judge’s name————-not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pray that I survive this conflagration and limp back to Va. with some dignity intact.
Football is great —-Bama Rolls
The Tide shows its prowess—–hope Va. Tech can do the same. We are excited about our gig of storytelling and bluegrass at Givens on 2/25/11. There will soon be news re the details. Hope all of you have enjoyed the six CD set of my fables and facts. Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
